What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a form of therapy often used to promote people’s physical and mental wellbeing. Physiotherapists are qualified and registered healthcare professionals who are trained in using a number of skills to prevent and manage a multitude of different conditions that may affect the body’s ability to move and perform. Physiotherapists will often use exercise therapy, manual therapy, education and advice to tackle problems that may arise from acute injuries, long term disabilities, painful conditions or operations. There are a number or other adjuncts that be of assistance in some case such as electrotherapy, taping and acupuncture. A holistic approach is often taken to ensure that those who seek physiotherapy are fully engaged in their care and are encouraged to take charge of their own health. There are a number of different specialist fields within physiotherapy that will have a bigger focus on different body parts or body systems
